No matter what, you are backing up a snapshot. NDMP uses the native
netapp dump utility. If you dump the live filesystem, netapp dump creates
a snapshot and dumps that. If you want to avoid this ad hoc snapshot,
then just back up a snapshot such as /vol/vol0/.snapshot/nightly.0
If you are backing up over NFS or CIFS, then you can back up the live
filesystem. But dumping a snapshot is much better because it doesn't
change during the dump.
